Greetings everyone! I'm sure some of you are stressing a little bit about the upcoming holiday season, in terms of getting presents and booking airline/train tickets to join loved ones for the holidays. So in order to help you keep your sanity, I've decided to host a potluck event this coming Saturday, December 12th, 2009 at my place: 2311 S. 22nd Street. I'm encouraging everyone to bring either a dish or beverage of your choice, as we eat, laugh, be merry and get to know those who have been unable to attend past events due to work and other commitments. There will also be an opportunity to play Nintendo/X-box games on a big inch flat screen TV. So if any of you have any games that you want to bring and share with the group, then by all means do not be shy. Festivities begin at 6:30PM and I hope to see all of you there who are able to make it. A bientot, Josh Again, this is a free event, but please bring a food item or beverage of your choice

Hey guys, I got an offer from David of International Friendship Network who offered us to join them at Pagoda Noodle Cafe. I think that's a good idea. Many of you are members of both meetups, so if you were on the fence about which to attend, I think Pagoda is the place to be!!! In case you AREN"T a member, I've added the location on this meetup as well. See you there! Ken ____________________ ___ Hi gang, I'm sure everyone has broken out their winter jackets by now. Man I hate winter. I didn't organize a meetup for First Friday in November because of the SEPTA strike, but I think we should be ok now. Continuing on exploring as much in Philly as we possibly can, I'd like to try out a new venue. I've never been to Sassafras International Cafe, but I was reading over the comments at YELP, and it gets nothing but rave reviews. And considering the international bunch we are, I think the location is appropriate. Hope to see you there, Ken

A few e-mails I received last week: "Ken, is there going to be a Halloween meetup, Any ideas"? "Ken, maybe we should go to a place for Halloween?" Be calm my children, The spy always comes through in the clutch. I am your go-to guy. I'm like Donovan, and you are my receivers: Deshawn, Avant, and even Westbrook when he's healthy. :-p I did lots of research on where we could go for Halloween. I had to consider a few things: - Parking. I didn't want to have you guys deal with paying 20 bucks to park your car in Center City. - Cost. Many of these parties I see cost 20-25 dollars and I worried that some of them might be sold out by the time I got around to organizing this meetup. - Vibe. I wanted a place that I knew besides being a prime night to go out, was a fun place even if it wasn't. Considering all this, I choose Silk City on 5th and Spring Garden on where I'd like for us all to meetup. It has a rather spacious area where you can hang out and get some food with a pretty cool dance floor. Last year when I went, I think most of the costumes were hand made and pretty original: Like these 4 girls who showed up in these red outfits with pacifiers in their mouths....turns out they were pretending to be to Chinese womens' gymnastic team! Classic! All in all, I think it'll be a good night. I haven't decided what I'm going to be yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I do. Ha! Just so you know, the cost is $5 with costume, $10 without and drinks are pretty moderately priced. Parking is always usually available. If you want free parking, come before 11, if not, then you'll have to deal with the meter on the other side of the street. I'll be there at 10:00-10:30. -The Spy

Hi Gang, I lived in the Art Museum on Fairmount Ave for a year, and I NEVER went inside the Eastern State Penitentiary. I'm not proud of that. So now that it's Halloween season, they have their Haunted, I feel it's the perfect time to go – even though I live back in West Philly. Go figure. But, before that, we should have another infamous Happy Hour/Meet and Greet at Urban Saloon -- which happens to be right across the street from the Eastern State Penitentiary. Random thought -- Going though a haunted house after a few PBRs could be interesting. Anyway, I'll be there at 5:30 doing my Organizer duties, but don't hurt yourself getting there. I figure around 8ish is when I'll roll over to the Haunted House. If this Meetup ends up being as much fun as our last Happy Hour, the night won’t end until 2AM!!! Some FYI on the Haunted House: Cost: $25 Hours: 7pm-11pm There are different ways to buy a ticket, but all of them are bought in 30 min time slots. PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION HERE ABOUT TICKETING RULES. (I think I’ll buy mine online.) < /param>< param name="allowscri ptaccess" value="always" >< embed src="http://www .youtube.com/v/XN9kv SvqMs4&hl=en& fs=1&" type="applicati on/x-shockwave-flash " allowscriptaccess=" always" allowfullscreen=" true" width="425" height="344" >< /object> See you there, The Spy

We're an international group, so I think it's ok we get political from time to time. Nothing like a good debate amongst friends. Right? I think we can all agree that oil makes the world go round, and I'm sure we can all agree that oil can be contributed to many hot geo-political issues we face today. There is a documentary that has gotten rave reviews and it is currently showing at the Ritz Bourse. I'm having trouble embeding the video so you can check out the trailer here. The movie starts at 7:45. I'll be there early we can try and sit in the same area. If you get there late, we'll meet out in front of the theater in case some people want to go out after. I hope this message finds you in good health, and you aren't too sad putting away your t-shirts, and breaking out your sweaters. Also, please vote on the poll, and send me some suggestions for a HALLOWEEN meetup. See you soon, -The spy

Hi Everyone, Sorry I've been absent. I'm still getting readjusted from vacation, moving into a new apartment, and preparing to start Wharton next week. Believe it or not, despite me known as a charismatic, devilish handsome organizer of the BEST MEETUP GROUP IN PHILADELPHIA, I also have a soft artistic, cultural side. All through highschool, all I wanted to be was a high school band director. Seriously. The Philly Fringe Festival runs through Sept. 19 and hosts hoards of awesome plays, concerts, and so on. I think we should hit a few up. Best part, is that there are all relatively cheap. This is a city of artists, so if anyone has a play they think I should promote, please let me know. WAWAPALOOZA 3: THE DARK SIDE OF THE ROAST Genre: Theater Time: 8pm Where:Society Hill Playhouse Cost: 10 bucks (13 with tax) includes one free drink
Hot off a streak of sold-out runs in ’07 and ’08, IdRatherBeHere is back with a fresh batch of short films and plays parodying Whole Foods, the Mummers, moms, K-Mart, camping, life after Brian Dawkins, and much more. “Biting, incisive and inspired” (Courier-Post). “Terrifically abnormal” (City Paper ). OK, here's how you buy your tickets. Either call 215-413-1318, OR go to here any buy your ticket. You'll have to sign up for an account (takes 2 mintues). I hope to see you there. Drinks/dancing afterwards?? -the spy

Hey Gang, I think we need a Happy Hour. Don't you think? I believe our last Happy Hour was this summer at Ladder 15. We should at least do these once a month. Besides, they bring out lots of new people. So, I mean, I keep hearing about the same places to go for happy hour. And while those are great, I really do try and find diverse, ethnic, or just hidden gyms when it comes to happy hours (unless there is a new place that is all the rage). I've never heard of the Mexican Post, but after looking at the website and it's relative location, I think it'll be easy for people to get to, and it looks like fun. Check these deals: BUD LIGHT PINTS - $2.50 ALL DAY EVERY DAY Monday through Friday from 5-7 PM enjoy our discounted drinks. $3.00 Domestic Bottles $4.00 Import Bottles $4.50 House Margaritas $5.25 House Fruit Margaritas $2.75 Domestic Pint $3.50 Import Pint $4.00 Shots of Jagermeister, Sauza Gold, Goldschlager and Jack Daniels $2. 99 Snacks (@ Bar only): Spanish or French Fries Two Tacos: Choice of Ground Beef, Chicken, or Beans Mexican Pizza: Choice of Cheese or Ground Beef Bar Quesadilla: Choice of Cheese, Ground Beef or Beans Bar Wings- Spicy or BBQ Those prices sound good to me! And being a native from Florida, I really like Tequilla. And Tacos. If we are all lucky, maybe the lady known as "The Mexican Tequilla" will honor everyone with her presence :-) See you there, The Spy

Yea, so I know the number 1 comes before the number 2, but I did the write up before this one. So, yea. Whatever. It seems like the weather is not getting ridiculously hot anymore like it was 3 weeks ago, so I think we should have brunch in the park before we walk over for this hilarious matinee. "Jedi Ken, where we having brunch?" "Patience young padawon, I'm getting there" Location of Brunch: COSI at Rittenhouse. We'll eat there, and converse. Afterwords, we'll walk 3 blocks over to the The Playground at the Adrienne which is located at 2030 Sansom Street to see FrankenFestival. A collection of four titillating, bizarre, and downright hilarious ten-minute monster plays stitched together and violently shocked to life. Come spend an hour with spacemen, undead flesh-eaters, and everyone’s favorite mythical forest ape for a romp-rollicking good time. A must-see for fans of B-Horror films and outrageous comedy . OK, I couldn't find a telephone number for this play so you'll have to go online here any buy your ticket. You'll have to sign up for an account (takes 2 minutes). Cost: $10 ($13 with tax) See ya, -the spy

Hey Everyone, Sorry to cancel the Beach trip, but it looks like Mother Nature just did not want to cooperate. Hurricanes and rain aside, we can still meetup in Philly next Saturday night for our own imaginary Beach Party at the Rum Bar. Why is the Rum Gone? Cause most of it can be found in the Rum Bar, over 100 varieties of it actually, and they are served in a number of interesting combinations. Everything from Mojitos to Cuba Libre's to more are served, while you are surrounded with a "trendy" pirate decor. The bar is conveniently located right off of Rittenhouse Sq, so if you can brave the elements, come on out and join me for a good time next Saturday at 9PM. Again, if you have any questions, just let me know or give me a call (610-909-6157). Look forward to seeing you there! John Castaldo
