Nitha, Gina, Kentaro and I are on the steering committe for the Society for Intercultural Education, Training, and Research. SIETAR will be hosting a speaker series on December 8th featuring Dr. Jason Goulah, Assistant Professor of Bilingual-Bicultural Education at DePaul University.

SIETAR Chicago is pleased to invite you to an exciting intercultural speaking event and luncheon featuring Dr. Jason Goulah (see speaker bio below). Dr. Goulah will speak about Transformative Learning and Value-creation in a bilingual/bicultural environment.

The event will start at 12:00pm, with lunch following. Free valet parking is available.

Please RSVP for the event and note that we will collect $5 per person at the door. The funds will go towards the cost of organizing the seminar. Please join us for lunch afterwards. (Lunch and drinks will be out of pocket expenses.)

Jason Goulah is Assistant Professor of Bilingual-Bicultural Education at DePaul University and Director of Japanese Credit Abroad with Concordia Language Villages, Concordia College in Moorhead Minnesota. He taught English in Japan from 1995-1999.

Dr. Goulah earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction in Second and Foreign Language Education, an M.Ed. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, and a B.A. in Japanese and Russian: Languages and Cultural Studies at the University at Buffalo; the first American graduated from Kwansei Gakuin University School of Law (Japan), Dr. Goulah earned an LL.M. in Fundamental Laws in 1999.

Dr. Goulah's research interests include transformative second and foreign language learning, Makiguchian and sociocultural approaches to learning and development, educating immigrant students from the Former Soviet Union, and language, identity and new literacies. His research articles have appeared in journals such as Critical Inquiry in Language Studies, Foreign Language Annals, and Journal of Transformative Education.

    •  I am impressed with the organizers' effort to enhance this group by providing various types of event, not only being confined to dinner/lunch, but also providing us the opportunity to have intellectually stimulating dialogues. The speaker could have used more familiar terms and examples for us since it was not an academic conference, Q and A session was good. 
    •  Interesting to meet such a diverse great of people, like-minded about topics that matter to me.
